Introducing A New Kitten To Your Home

Bringing a new kitten into your home can be a very exciting experience. Kittens are cute, playful, and full of energy. They bring joy and laughter to your life and are great companions. However, introducing a new kitten to your home can be challenging, especially if you already have other pets or children.

Here are some tips to help you make the transition as smooth as possible:

  1. Prepare your home:
Before bringing your new kitten home, make sure your home is safe and secure. Block off any areas that might be dangerous or inaccessible to the kitten. Remove any toxic plants, secure loose wires, and cover sharp edges or corners. Make sure there is a comfortable bed, toys, food, water, and litter box in a quiet area.
  2. Gradual introduction:
When introducing your new kitten to other pets or children, it’s important to do so gradually. Start by keeping the kitten in a separate room for a few days and allowing your other pets or children to sniff or smell the kitten from a safe distance. Gradually increase the amount of time the kitten is allowed to spend with the other pets or children, always supervising the interactions.
  3. Positive reinforcement:
Use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior in your new kitten. Reward the kitten with treats, affection, and playtime when they are calm and well-behaved. This will help the kitten feel comfortable and safe in their new environment.
  4. Provide plenty of attention and playtime:
Kittens are very energetic and playful, and they need plenty of attention and playtime. Make sure to spend time with your kitten every day, playing with them and bonding with them. This will help the kitten feel loved and secure and will also help strengthen the bond between you and your new furry friend.
  5. Patience and understanding:
Remember that introducing a new kitten to your home is a process, and it may take some time for the kitten to fully adjust. Be patient and understanding with your new kitten and give them the time they need to settle in and feel comfortable in their new environment.

Bringing a new kitten into your home is a big responsibility, but it can also be a lot of fun. By following these tips, you can make the transition as smooth as possible and create a happy and loving home for your new furry friend.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Fur Ever Home Cat Sanctuary, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our feline residents. For this reason, we do not publicly disclose our physical address in order to prevent unplanned drop-offs. Our sanctuary operates at its current maximum capacity, which means we are providing care for a significant number of cats. While we have space available for more cats and would love to help every feline in need, we are dependent on the support of our community to ensure we can provide proper care for each feline in need.

It is also important to note that Fur Ever Home Cat Sanctuary is specifically designed to provide a safe haven for unadoptable cats and those unlikely to survive in the wild. Many of our feline friends come from local humane societies that have determined them to be unadoptable and at risk of euthanasia.  We are grateful for your understanding and encourage you to join us in our mission to give these cats the life they deserve.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we have received tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This means that when you contribute to our cause, your generous donations may be deductible from your taxable income, potentially reducing the amount of taxes you owe. Your support not only helps provide care and shelter for our feline residents but also comes with the added benefit of potential tax savings. We recommend consulting with a qualified tax professional to understand the specific guidelines and requirements for claiming tax deductions on charitable donations. Thank you for considering supporting our sanctuary and for making a difference in the lives of these precious cats.

Our spacious sanctuary is composed of a total of 4 sections that have unique fencing to help keep our felines in and predatory wildlife out.  The exterior perimeter is also equipped with an electric fence to prevent larger predators from digging under the fencing.

New cats are kept in segregation until they have been spayed/neutered and received any needed veterinary care before being released into our larger areas.  Care takers live on site at the sanctuary and feed, clean sand boxes, and visit with the cats multiple times daily.  In addition to our live stream we also have extensive additional security camera coverage around our facility and gated entrances into it.
